The sub–committees of the LSCB are groups of professionals who convene to discuss certain areas of safeguarding, and complete projects and tasks on behalf of the Board. There are 3 sub-committees currently under the Southampton LSCB and one sub committee shared with the Local Safeguarding Adults Board. The chairs of these sub committees attend the main board meetings to feedback concerns raised by members, provide reports on progress of tasks or subjects which it is felt that the board should consider and also to receive direction on the sub committee work streams as directed by the business plan of the Board.
Monitoring and Evaluation Sub Committee
This sub committee receives and analyses management information and data from constituent agencies of the LSCB to monitor and report on the effectiveness of safeguarding practice. This group will initiate multi-agency audits on safeguarding activities to ensure adherence to policy and procedure of the LSCB, and review the findings of audits to identify impact on practice. This sub committee will also commission inspections and audits were necessary.
Serious Case Review Sub Committee
This sub committee undertake reviews when a child has died or been seriously injured in circumstances were abuse or neglect is known or suspected or when the Child Death Overview Panel considers that there may be grounds to undertake a serious case review. This group will decide whether a case meets the serious case review threshold and if so, will manage the process from commissioning of individual management reviews to the publication of the overview report and Executive summary.

Learning & Development Strategic Group
This group works to ensure that the training provided to the children and young people’s and adult safeguarding is in line with local and national priorities. This group reports to the LSCB whose role is to ensure that the training is of a sufficient quality and effectiveness.
Missing, Exploited and Trafficked (MET) Groups – (Operational and Strategic)
These sub committees are responsible for identifying trends and key issues for young people who are MET via auditing and discussion. The Strategic Group ensures that the City has a clear and robust focus on successful disruption, intervention and protection.
