Roadshows to improve safety for children and adults in Southampton – Working together to keep everybody safe
In a bid to improve child and adult safety, the Southampton Local Safeguarding Boards and Southampton City Council have joined up with Hampshire Constabulary and Hampshire Fire and Rescue to host a series of roadshows during Safeguarding Week (6th – 10th June).
These roadshows are an opportunity for us to talk to residents about how to notice risks or concerns and the steps they can take to help and reduce the risks to their own families and others around them. We will be handing out safety packs and healthy snacks to help us do this at locations across the city, backed up by tweets throughout the week carrying safety messages with the hashtag #sotonsafeweek.
Keith Makin, Independent Chair of Southampton Local Safeguarding Children Board and Fiona Bateman, Independent Chair of the Local Safeguarding Adults Board said:
“We know that residents in Southampton place a high value on keeping vulnerable adults and children safe, but the appropriate channels for raising concerns are not always known.
“The programme of events has been chosen to raise public awareness on how to report concerns and what services will do to work with the adult or child at risk of harm. This week will offer families the chance to increase their knowledge of some of the really crucial current safety themes including turning off technology, co-sleeping and neglect and self-neglect, financial exploitation and what to do if you are worried about someone.
“It is imperative that we work together as a city to protect our children and vulnerable adults we would urge everyone to join us on social media to spread the key messages as widely as possible, and for those who can spare a few moments to pop in to our activities. Together we can keep people safe”.
Come along to the activities on:
Monday 6th June 2016, 11am – 5pm at St James Park, Shirley
Wednesday 8th June 2016, 11am – 5pm at Bitterne Precinct
Friday 10th June 2016, 11am – 5pm at Houndswell Park (behind Primark)
